느티나무 군집

느티나무 군집이 뿜어내는 기운이 있다.
느티나무 군집은 사람을 모은다.
시공간을 아우르는 위안이다. 
계절마다 뿜는 분위기도 다르다.
한여름 그늘에서 겨울나무의 진면목으로
늠름하여 계절의 구별을 꺾는다.

쪼그려 앉아 쉴 때, 나도 저 품안에서 위안이다. 
겨울 가지 사이로 희끗희끗 밝은 불빛이 파르르 떤다. 

내가 느티나무 씨를 뿌려 길렀으니
그들이 한창 사유의 지평을 깊고 푸르게 펼친다.
느티나무 씨앗, 들깨 한 알 크기가 우주를 넉넉하게 품었다.
고독한 혼자였을 세월이 있어 장년의 늠름함이 의젓하다.
그러니 어쩌랴, 여전히 혼자 골몰하며 아닌 척 의연하다. 

느티나무는 아무리 보아도
뭣인양 진지하여 삼엄한 것은 선천적으로 기질에 맞지 않고
뭣이 아니라 손사레치는 것은 남사스러워 체질적으로 맞지 않다.

The Zelkova tree cluster exudes an aura.
The Zelkova tree cluster gathers people.
It is a comfort that transcends time and space.
The atmosphere it exudes differs with each season.
From the shade in midsummer to the true essence of winter trees
Majestic, defying the distinctions of seasons.

When I squat down to rest, I too find solace in its embrace.
Through the winter branches, faint bright lights quiver softly.

Since I sowed Zelkova seeds and nurtured them
They now unfold the horizons of thought deeply and vividly.
A Zelkova seed, the size of a perilla grain, generously embraced the universe.
Having endured solitary years, its mature dignity stands firm.
So what can be done, still engrossed in solitude, feigning composure.

No matter how much I look at the Zelkova tree
Being serious and solemn as if it were something doesn't suit its innate nature
And waving off as if it were nothing doesn't suit its constitution.

시작 메모

도시의 한 공터에서 잘 생긴 느티나무 군집에 머문다. 느티나무의 작은 씨앗 하나가 우주를 품는다. 직접 느티나무 씨앗을 뿌려 길러보았다. 그 나무들은 이제 장년의 의연함으로 자리 잡았다.

겨울날 느티나무 군집 아래 쪼그려 앉는다. 도시의 불빛이 가지 사이로 스며들어 파르르 떤다. 한여름의 그늘이 더없이 좋았던 공간이다. 겨울나무의 늠름함 또한 멋지다. 느티나무는 계절마다 섬세하다. 묵묵히 사유하며 시간을 건너고 있다.

고독했을 그들의 성장을 떠올린다. 진지함과 경박함 모두를 거부하는 그들만의 철학이 있다. 서로를 의지하며 군집을 이루었지만, 각자의 자리에서 홀로 깊어간다. 그들이 만들어낸 위안의 공간에서, 나도 그들의 일부가 된다.

In a vacant lot in the city, I stay among a handsome cluster of zelkova trees. A small seed of the zelkova holds the universe. I personally planted and grew zelkova seeds. Those trees have now taken root with the composure of maturity.

On a winter day, I crouch under the zelkova cluster. The city lights seep through the branches, trembling faintly. It was a space where the summer shade was unparalleled. The dignity of the winter trees is also impressive. Zelkova trees are delicate in every season, silently contemplating as they traverse time.

I think of their lonely growth. They have their own philosophy, rejecting both seriousness and frivolity. While relying on each other to form a cluster, they deepen individually in their own places. In the comforting space they created, I too become a part of them.
